CHAPTER 23 THOUGHT 3

The U.S. Constitution says copyrights are used to, "promote the progress of science and useful arts". The author in our text feels  the Digital Millennium Copyright Act does the opposite and "assures  that new innovations don't displace old ones". An example of this from the text is about a Russian programmer who wrote a book on how to move Adobe's eBooks from one computer to another and for the computer to read the book out loud for blind people, and the programmer was arrested for violating copyright law. Do you feel that copyright laws hurt the advancement in web base material as well as technology as a whole? Do you have any examples of this?

CHAPTER 23 THOUGHT 2

With the internet moving to broadband,  The author says cable companies often "discriminate" against its customers on the internet services they provide. The companies offer different routers which have different speeds of internet available. This limits the content the customer can view (such as videos) if they buy the slower internet available. The Cable companies also often block competitors advertising on their web. Do you feel this is Discrimination? If the Cable companies are allowed to continue to regulate their internet services they provide, do you think this could get out of hand in the future?

CHAPTER 23 THOUGHT 1

The internet is a "commons" as the author of our book would say. This means everyone can access it and it is not controlled in a sence. This lead to much innovation and to make the interent what it is today. With all good things there are bad.  Do you feel the internet should be controlled more? If so, by who?
